Margrethe Vestager says she has ‘no plans’ to run for office in Denmark

Outgoing European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager says in a new biography that she’s not thinking about a return to Danish politics.
The book, called “Vestager’s World,” will hit bookshelves Wednesday, and marks the dying embers of her 10-year tenure as the EU’s antitrust czar.
Before helming the European Commission’s powerful competition arm for a decade, Vestager was the leader of Denmark’s Social Liberal Party and served as minister of economy and interior from 2011 to 2014, also holding the position of deputy prime minister.
However, Vestager told historian and author Morten Møller — who has followed the commissioner during the final days of her mandate for the new biography — that she has “no plans to run for office” in Copenhagen.
She made a failed bid for the presidency of the European Investment Bank at the end of 2023, and resumed her duties as commissioner after a three-month campaign.
In September, the Technical University of Denmark announced that Vestager would become chair of their board of governors from January 2025.
